In November and December, I ate as if calories didn’t exist, and who could blame me!? The cookies and candies were decadent, the smoked meat was to die for, and the sides were buttery and filling…. oh, the memories…
It’s time to eat right again, though, because confidence on the beach in June is a thing.
Speaking of confidence on the beach, the gym has been calling my name, “Carmen, come back to us. We miss you!”
My friend Jacquelyn must have heard it, too. She texted me last night asking, “Yoga tomorrow?”
“Okay,” I typed back, “I organized my closet, so I can find my shoes. I’ve run out of excuses…”
I woke up at 4:45 this morning and pulled on my gym clothes…thankfully my shirt wasn’t inside out again…getting dressed in the dark takes some skill, y’all.
The clock struck 5:30 am as I rolled my yoga mat out next to Jacquelyn’s. I tried not to glare at people as I started my deep breathing (sweaty mat fumes…mmmm).
After some ommmmming, I found my inner sense of peace. I may have even smiled! But only after smelling my shirt to make sure that stank wasn’t mine.
At 6 am, it was time for crow pose. I decided that today was my day! I was going to try to lift my feet from the ground, and y’all, I did it! To be honest, my toes barely hovered over my mat and my wrists felt like they were going to break, but I did it!!
My super positive, and amazingly chipper at 6:15 am, yoga instructor then asked us to stand on our heads. I looked at her like she was crazy and after watching someone fall with a loud thud across the room, I shook my head and said, “did you see my feet come off my mat?! I’m calling today a win! Baby steps, people. Baby steps.”
That’s how I feel about coming back to reality with eating better, too. Baby Steps….
Here is to trying not to fail with that one!

P.S. I did put my head on the ground and do an upside-down crow pose before falling over like a rock. Yay for trying! Go out and conquer, y’all!
